Cultivated by singer-songwriter, performer and composer Imogen Cygler, the group is made up of talented young musicians from Melbourne University’’s VCA and Conservatory of Music. The band will be performing songs created by Cygler that fuse pop, classical and melodic rock.

Alyce and her amazing band, have been performing gigs all over Melbourne as well as drawing the attention of some of the world’s most highly regarded musicians and artists such as Steve Kilbey, Jeff Jenkins and Billy Pinnell.

Come see Alyce perform songs from her album ‘Funny Little World’ which include 10 sultry, self-penned compositions as well as her take on classics ‘Tar and Cement’, ‘Different Drum’ and ‘Pale Blue Eyes’, recorded with the cream of the Melbourne music scene; Stephen Hadley, (Tex Perkins Dark Horses), Clare Moore (Coral Snakes), Jack Howard (Hunters and Collectors), Claude Carranza (Black Sorrows), Jex Saarelaht and Roger Bergodaz (Lost Ragas).

Thee Marshmallow Overcoat present “’Psychedelic Yuletide”’

It is with great pleasure we announce Thee Marshmallow Overcoat as they bring the psychedelic sounds of the ‘’60s with a splash of Christmas Brandy to The Flying Saucer Club this December.

Featuring Ash Naylor, Davey Lane and Brett Wolfenden, their forming can only be described as serendipitous. In 2015 each member was invited to play a short set each at a benefit concert for the Myeloma Foundation honouring the great Jim Keays.

As the event drew closer Naylor and Davey decided to combine forces with Wolfe’ creating a specific line up and set list featuring all their ‘’60s favourites for the fundraiser. “So our first show was upon us, we played all Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who and Yardbirds songs with as much love as the material and the event deserved.

A curious patron asked from the crowd…” “What are ya called?”” Davey, drawing upon his vast internal data base of brilliant pop knowledge replied ““The Marshmallow Overcoat”” (A Reference to the Richard Manuel quote from the Scorcese’’s Film ‘The Last Waltz’.) Unbeknown to us at that time there already existed a band of the same name, hence the prefix Thee.”

Since this momentous occassion, the band has gone on to perform at venues such as The Yarra, Cherry Bar and The Winnebago Lounge.

“”We play the music we love and we love the music we play” ” says Naylor.

This show will be aimed at the dance floor, not the dinner plate. So tune in, turn on and freak out!

Sun Rising – The Songs That Made Memphis

This show will be a Killer, Cash & King rock ‘n’ roll Christmas spectacular featuring all the big hits of Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash and Elvis plus songs from their Sun catalogue and other hits from their careers.

It’s one thing to pay tribute, it’s another to live and breathe the music. The passion shared by the boys in Sun Rising, is nothing short fanatical. It has less to do with the fact that the boys have visited Sun & Memphis a combined 12 times and more to do with the goose bumps that rise when they talk about Sam, Sun, the artists and birthplace of Rock n Roll.

Original Melbourne music luminaries, David Cosma and Damon Smith have for years dreamed of Sun Records. They have silently worshiped their idols while pursuing their own original music, always knowing that at some stage they would team up to pay homage to the birthplace of Rock ‘n’ Roll. They now do so, with a world class rockin’ band and a set list that is as hot as the Sun itself. The killer line-up also features Trent McKenzie (bass), Adam Coad (drums) and Adrian Whyte (guitar).

You’ll also be treated to a set of other classic Sun songs from artists including Carl Perkins, Howlin’ Wolf, Roy Orbison and more

Michael Oliphant & The Second Hand Spacesuit Tour

The band features:
Michael Oliphant – singer and keyboardist from innovative Melbourne bands ‘The Office’, ‘The Mike Oliphant Band’ (performed with Colleen Hewitt, Dionne Warwick and Tina Turner) is considered one of the ‘must hear’ voices in Australia.

Roger McLachlan is the founding bass player of The Little River Band (also can be heard playing the famous opening fretless bass line on Farnham’s ‘You’’re The Voice) has simply lost count of the many platinum albums he has played on and is considered by many to be one of the finest bass players in the business. He also makes a very tasty gin and tonic.

The amazing drumming of Gerry Pantazis is known around the world. He is an award winning blues producer, last year touring to great acclaim with guitarist Larry Carlton and more recently Richard Marx.

Greg Clarkson plays saxophone like nobody else. As one of this country’s most celebrated and revered reedmen he could be seen recently in the Jersey Boys show and routinely on tv.

Michael Doyle (remember the enigmatic band Atlantis?) just returned from a sell-out 23 show tour in France playing guitar and violin with the Celtic band ‘Claymore’.
If you haven’t realised by now all five of these gentlemen also moonlight in the band ‘Late For Breakfast’ and have a successful album entitled ‘The Art Of Falling’….Now they hit the road and get serious as the Second Hand Space Suit Tour.

Diesel

The album ‘Americana’ is music that draws from America’s roots, from country, folk, bluegrass, R&B, the blues … But to Mark Lizotte, the musician known and loved as Diesel, Americana is the very core of his being. It’s the music of his childhood and, as an artist born in America and raised in Australia, a link back to the land he’d left behind. For this show, Diesel will be re-tracing the steps of his musical education paying respect to Tom Petty, CCR, The Band, Bruce Springsteen, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bonnie Raitt and more! So now, 27 years after he busted out of the garage and into the Australian psyche with Don’t Need Love and Soul Revival, it’s time for fans to circle back and hear the songs that made the man. Americana.

To coincide with the release of Americana, Diesel will be embarking on a national Australian tour from September 2016.  He’ll be playing in solo mode, giving fans the opportunity to see a more intimate and stripped back performance that features the distinct guitar playing and powerhouse vocals that Diesel has become renowned for. The set will feature tracks from Americana as well as singles and other gems spanning his 15-album career.

ABOUT DIESEL:
Born in Fall River Massachusetts, the youngest of seven from a sax playing electronics technician father and a mother in nursing, Mark Lizotte aka DIESEL grew up in Australia and in the U.S. He formed the band ‘Johnny Diesel & The Injectors’ in 1986 from remnants of a previous band before embarking on a solo career in 1991.

With over thirty five singles, sixteen albums, 6 ARIA awards and record sales edging 1 million, DIESEL is a journeyman of music. With blues music in his DNA, an influence largely from his Father’s record collection, DIESEL has blended styles to come up with a truly unique sound, punctuated with his distinct guitar playing and vocals.

The Eagles Story

Legends are born and not made, or so they say. The Eagles legend began in California, way back in 1971, The Eagles Story began right here in Melbourne 10 years ago and through them and the music that became the soundtrack to a generation, the legend continues to prosper and grow.

Over the years the line-up of the band has changed, just like the originals, and has evolved into what you see today. Featuring five of Melbourne’s most in demand and respected players and vocalists, the band has all of the ingredients needed to replicate some of the greatest vocal arrangements and complex melodies ever produced.

With such a huge catalogue of hits to choose from, the most difficult task for the band is deciding what songs to leave out, but don’t worry, from One of these Nights to Lyin Eyes to Peaceful Easy Feelin and with a brief stopover at the Hotel California along the way, the show never leaves you wondering. You will know every song and every song in turn will take you back to a time and place when life was just a little less complicated and just maybe, a whole lot more fun.

Peter Cupples CD Launch

PETER CUPPLES is the former lead singer and songwriter of ‘STYLUS’ – the Australian blue-eyed soul band who became the first ‘all white band’ to be signed by the US Motown label, Tamala.

Peter first came to prominence with Stylus in 1975, releasing four albums with hits such as ‘Summer Breeze’ and ‘World of Make Believe’ before the band split in 1980.

A successful solo career followed throughout the ’80’s, with a top 20 hit for his first release, ‘Fear of Thunder’, and success with the song ‘Blame it on the Weather’ – not only for Peter but also for John Farnham, whose voice, incidentally, Peter’s soaring vocals are often compared to. He also became a regular on TV shows such as The Midday Show, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, Tonight Live, and Carols by Candlelight at the Myer Music Bowl.

Other albums released since include ‘Still Alive’ (with Stylus); ‘Bac2basix’ – a roots album filled with wonderful storytelling songs such as ‘Pioneers’, ‘Family’ and the ‘Poor Man’s Al Jolson; a jazz standards album ‘About Time’; and ‘Home Grown’ – Peter’s own tribute to some of his favourite Aussie artists.

Over the last decade, Peter has toured both solo and with Stylus, and with his close friend, the late Jon English. Their collaborative show, ‘Uncorked’, filled with nostalgia and good humoured banter, delighted audiences everywhere throughout Australia.

Peter works with many charities and has written songs for the ‘Make a Wish Foundation’ and the ‘Sacred Heart Foundation’

The Substitutes present Giants of ’60s US Folk/Rock/Pop

With four special guest vocalists:

Steve Lucas –he may have a famous punk persona from his seminal ‘‘80s band X but he has a profound love of ‘’60s pop and his desire to play the music of the Lovin’’ Spoonful, The Turtles, The Doors and the Young Rascals has driven this show. Those that have seen him perform at our previous shows will attest that he is a dynamic showman and a magnificent singer.

Nikki Nicholls –is well known now as the sassy featured vocalist for the acclaimed Jam the Funk band but has toured (and recorded) as a backing vocalist with John Farnham and with artists such as Kylie Minogue, Stevie Wonder, Suzi Quatro, Lulu, Australian Crawl. She is right at home with ‘’60s music and especially the harmonies of the Mamas & Papas.

Buddy England had a successful career as a solo singer in the ‘’60s, releasing a series of singles in Australia and the UK, most notably “Movin’’ Man”. He subsequently joined The Mixtures and later replaced Bruce Woodley in The Seekers in 1975. More recently he has performed irregularly with the Beach Boys tribute band, the Beach Buddies, and will reprise that role for this show.

Andrea Lees is the daughter of renowned Australian singer Ron Lees and her singing career spans two decades. She has starred in cabaret, television, musical theatre, bands, session singing, floor shows and supported leading stars such as Frank Sinatra, Whitney Houston, Jimmy Barnes, Helen Shapiro, Bon Jovi, Coleen Hewitt, Alison Durbin, Marcia Hines, The Four Kinsmen, Michael Bolton and many others.

Renee Geyer

In her late teens Renee was Countdown royalty; in her 20s she had a string of pop, soul and reggae hits spanning the 70s and 80s; her LA years were in the studio with the likes of Stevie Wonder, Sting, Joe Cocker and Chaka Khan; her 90s renaissance with Paul Kelly. In 2010, Renee released The Ultimate Collection, covering four decades of Soul. Whether in the studio or on stage, this is where Renee Geyer is at home and continues to wow audiences with her remarkable voice.
Renee released albums which included So Lucky, Difficult Woman and Sweet Life. Her career has never stalled. At the end of 1999, Geyer released her frank life story – Confessions Of A Difficult Woman through Harper Collins, and 2003 saw her release the Gold selling (and self-produced) album Tenderland.
In 2004, Renee hooked up with Brisbane producer Magoo to co-produce her 21st album, Tonight, which has received stunning reviews and was nominated for an ARIA award. In 2005, Renee was inducted in to the ARIA Hall Of Fame; a proud occasion in which she joined the ranks of Australia’s most respected and accomplished musicians.
2007 was to be a busy one for Renee, who worked on her 22nd album, Dedicated, released on EMI in September. With a plethora of select appearances around the country, she remains one of our most enduring and endearing artists.
2012 saw Renee notch up 40 years in the music business, and to celebrate this amazing anniversary, Renee recorded a big band swing album – something that no female artist has ever endeavored to do in this country.

Russell Morris & Band

Morris’ career started in September 1966 with the formation of the Melbourne group Somebody’s Image, which rose to prominence with a local hit version of the Joe South song ‘Hush’. Morris was convinced to leave Somebody’s Image for a solo career. His manager/producer, local music identity Ian Meldrum, spent unprecedented hours and money to create a seven-minute production extravaganza around a song called ‘The Real Thing’. Once the result was released to shocked radio programmers who had never been asked to play such a long Australian single before, it was up to Morris’ personality, singing, and performing talents to make the record work. It reached Australia’s number one spot in June 1969. Without any promotional support from Morris, ‘The Real Thing’ reached number one in Chicago, Houston, and New York. The second single – ‘Part Three Into Paper Walls’ (‘The Real Thing’ revisited) and ‘The Girl That I Love’ (a pop ballad more indicative of what was to come) — became a double-sided number one hit, the first time an Australian artist had scored consecutive number ones with their first two singles.
